Plastic Decking The New Innovation
If you are interested in saving trees and like to use environmentally safe materials, then you might want to consider plastic decking. Most plastic decking is made from recycled materials and will last for decades, saving many trees and saving you time and effort in maintenance. Some manufactures will warranty their materials for up to 50 years.
Materials: The plastic grocery bags or perhaps shrink-wrap that you throw away now could be your wonderful new deck. Plastic decking material is made from recycled plastic alone, or recycled plastic, minerals and a mixture of plastic and wood composites, depending on the manufacturer. It is made to replicate the look and feel of wood, is heavy and dense, made to withstand weather and heavy use.
Characteristics: Pressure treated decking material emits harmful chemicals, but not with the plastic decking material. Very low maintenance, you can also put away your paints, stains and other deck refinishing gear. This decking material never needs staining, water-resistant treatments or painting. Bare feet, no problem, unlike wood decking no splintering, ever. Never any mold or mildew issues. While some manufactures say that their materials may show some fading by the sun over time, others say that the materials are resistant to sunlight. The realistic wood finish makes it slip resistant. No staining spills just wash right up. This decking will not warp, rot and is scratch resistant. Termites and other wood eating insects will never be an issue.
Installation: Each manufacturer will have a set of instructions and recommendations, but if have some carpentry experience and tools, then you can install your plastic deck. Metal fasteners are designed for some decking types, and some of the materials require pre-drilling and others do not need pre-drilling. Planks that are interlocking are available for ease of installation. Check the instructions and determine what type of instillation is right for your product.
Colors: This decking comes in a very wide variety of woods types and colors. Match your home colors, or pick a complementary color. If you like the look of exotic wood, then there is a style for you. Woods such as black walnut, redwood, and vibrant, along with muted colors. You might want to try a unique color combination, the sky is the limit.
Accessories: All manufactures offer trims, railing and posts in many different styles. Many, Many rail styles are available. Whatever style you choose, the same materials are used along with years of easy maintenance. Your imagination is your only limitation, go ahead plan that desk you have always dreamed of.
Cost: Costs for the decking materials can be a little more than conventional wood. However, if you factor in all the paint, stain and board replacement, along with you precious time then the final cost will be less than wood. A new garden house will be the only maintenance tool you will need.
So go ahead and build your plastic deck and sit back and enjoy all the great outdoors has to offer, with this trouble free plastic decking.
